Thomas Hardy's grandfather and great-grandfather and other relations came from this village. In Hardy's Far from the Madding Crowd Fanny Robin was buried in the churchyard and troy spent the night in the porch. The Church has a fine gallery and some fine tombs of the Martyn family. |
