~ St.Gregory, Marnhull ~ |
|
|
Marnhull is a large mixed
village set in a hilly rambling vale just north of Sturminster
Newton. The church tower is fifteenth century with pinnacled
buttresses, the nave roof dates from this period and consists of
carved panels each with a different design. In the north aisle the
fourteenth century roof is of the trussed rafter type. There are
also some fragmented wall paintings from the Tudor period. Marnhull
was the inspiration for Marlott the home of Thomas Hardy's Tess.
