The Dane Orc built an abbey
here which was filled with monks from Cerne, it flourished here for
five hundred years until the monasteries were broken up and the land
passed to Sir Giles Strangeways. The church is much as it was when
the during the civil war, the oak pulpit bears witness to this for
there are two holes made by bullets of Cromwell's men when they
captured the garrison here. |
