Church of St John the Baptist, East Down, North Devon. Possibly originally dedicated to St Peter, the church consisted of the tower, nave and chancel. In 1469 the south aisle was added and in 1649 further alterations took place and the south porch added. The fine 15th century screen was restored in 1925. Extensive restoration was carried out in 1888 at a cost of £1242. There are four bells, viz Treble 30" diameter, dated 1669. Second 32.5" dated 1712, Third 35" recast in 1912 and Tenor 39" mediaeval with Latin inscription. The church registers date from 1538 and are complete.
