Sitting in the valley beside the river Otter the manor of Colaton was owned by the family of Sir Walter Raleigh. The church tower has a doorway dating from the 15th century which heads either side and suffering from wear. The font is Norman and is carved in a rope design. At the time of the Spanish Armada John Abraham became vicar and was here for 53 years until the Civil War.
Between the battles of Trafalgar and Waterloo the recumbent was James Hobbs who was her for 48 years and a tablet on the wall is the record.
