Colaton Raleigh ~ |
|
|
Sitting in the valley beside
the river Otter the manor of Colaton was owned by the family of Sir
Walter Raleigh. The church tower has a doorway dating from the 15th
century which heads either side and suffering from wear. The font is
Norman and is carved in a rope design. At the time of the Spanish
Armada John Abraham became vicar and was here for 53 years until the
Civil War. |
| Between the battles of Trafalgar and Waterloo the
recumbent was James Hobbs who was her for 48 years and a tablet on
the wall is the record. |
