St George & St Mary,
Cockington, Originally a chapel of Medieval origin, was leased to
Torre Abbey (Premonstratensian Abbey founded 1196 ,Monks known as
the white Canons) in 1203 , enlarged in 14th century. Became a
Parish church in 1881 and restored. All the land around the church
belonged to the Cockington Manor. The church has burial registers
but no grave yard. built of local sandstone with Beer stone pillars
& windows |
