High on a hill above the river
Wolf is the Church of Broadwoodwidger. The tower and chancel are of
the 13th century, the remainder of the Church is 15th century with
the exception of the screen which is 16th century. Hidden from view
behind the altar is the Tomb of William Shiston, from the battered
armour of the carved figure you would think him a knight. This is
far from the truth he was infact a notorious cattle stealer, killed
near his home, Upcott. |
