The church which stands
besides the gate to Bicton Park was built by Lady Rolle as a
memorial to her husband the last Lord Rolle who died in 1842. The
ruins of the earlier church of St.Mary can still be seen nearby and
date from the 12th century. The garden at Bicton were landscaped by
Henry Rolle in 1735 to the design of Andre Le Notre who also
designed the garden of Versailles. |
| The gardens are known for its collection of trees and
shrubs, there is a large collection of coniferous trees in the
Pinetum. |
