~ St.Martin of Tours,
Werrington ~ |
| At one time this parish was in the County of Devon but
is now part of Cornwall. Werrington Park was the last home of Sir William
Morice, one of the General Monk's chief advisers and one of the first to
welcome Charles the II back. Werrington church is set beside one entrance to
the Park, together with the vicarage. The church was built in the 18th century,
replacing the original which was pulled down by a squire. |
| It has three tower the two smaller over the porches.
From the church tower there is a view over the wooded valley and the river
Attery towards Launceston St. Stephens. |
| WERRINGTON - from the Anglo-Saxon
meaning 'Wulfraed's farm' |
| NOTE - Werrington was in the
County of Devon until 1966 |
