Under an Act of 1843 districts were separated from large parishes and were known as Peel Districts after Sir Robert Peel who promoted the Act, and this was the beginning of Pendeen. The first church was a wooden structure, built in three weeks and used for more than two years before the new church was completed. The present church was opened in 1852 and dedicated by Bishop Philpotts in 1845.

The lectern, a carved wooden eagle was the work of a local man, a joiner at Levant mine. The font was also made by local craftsman being a single block of granite, quarried from Carn.
