Under an Act of 1843 districts
were separated from large parishes and were known as Peel Districts
after Sir Robert Peel who promoted the Act, and this was the
beginning of Pendeen. The first church was a wooden structure, built
in three weeks and used for more than two years before the new
church was completed. The present church was opened in 1852 and
dedicated by Bishop Philpotts in 1845. |
| The lectern, a carved wooden eagle was the work of a
local man, a joiner at Levant mine. The font was also made by local
craftsman being a single block of granite, quarried from Carn.
