~ Gwennap Pit, Gwennap ~ |
| John Wesley was born in 1703 in Epsworth, Lincolnshire,
he first came to Cornwall in 1747 and preached in Launceston on
August 31, 1747 at St.Stephen's Down, he returned three years later
on August 31, 1751. Gwennap Pit over 300 yards around, where
thousands would sit and listen to John Wesley preach. The two
granite pillars were known as Wesley's pulpit. Imagine the
atmosphere in this great amphitheatre with its acoustic properties.
John Wesley was preaching here when he was 80 and the place would be
packed. |
