| High above the main street is the Church of King
Charles the Martyr, and built in the 17th century just after the Restoration.
There is a tower, small porch, vestry, baptistry, chancel and warrier's chapel.
The east window depicts Charles I holding the axe of his execution also with
him are Archbishop Laud and Bishop Juxon. The pulpit is covered with various
carvings including John the Baptist and John the Evangelist. |
