Cuby with Tregony ~ |
|
|
St Cuby is thought to have
lived in this area in the 6th century, he was born in the 5th
century in Cornwall the son of a Chieftain descended from Geraint,
Prince of Devon. The tower of this Church is 14th century, while the
porch is 15th century with a vaulted roof. Inside the font
is12century and carved with serpents, dragons and winged heads. The
pulpit seems to have been constructed from old bench ends. |
| On the chancel wall is a
section of the original screen. In a wall of the nave is a large
sculptured stone, thought to have been the grave of three Saxon
children whose names were thought to have been Nonnita, Ercila and
Viricati. |
