A Church has been here since
the 7th century and the monks of Bodmin looked after the parish
until 1269 when the first vicar was appointed. Todays building dates
from the 13th and 14th centuries although in the west wall of the
tower is a 7th century granite pillar inscribed "Conetocius,
son of Tegern0, a sad loss". A Cornish cross of the same period
can be seen outside the north door on the transept wall. Inside
there is a Norman font, the pulpit is made of carver bench ends. The
chancel wangon roof is a richly carved and retains most of the
original timber. The church is one of only a few Cornish Churches
with a spire. |
